What Famous People Have Said About Therapy!

All it takes is a beautiful fake smile to hide an injured soul and they will never notice how broken you really are.

A famous quote from the late actor Robin Williams

Your illness is not your identity. Your chemistry is not your character.

A famous quote from the author of A Purpose Driven Life, Pastor Rick Warren

Anxiety and depression are impervious to accolades or achievements. Anyone can be affected, despite their level of success. In fact, there is a good chance you know someone who is struggling with it since nearly 20% of American adults face some form of mental illness in their lifetime. So why aren’t we talking about it?

A famous quote from actress Kristen Bell

Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increase the burden: It is easier to say “My tooth is aching” than to say “My heart is broken.”

A famous quote from the author of the Chronicles of Narnia series, C.S. Lewis

In-Person Counseling

Social distancing is easy with such a large office at our primary location on Kingston Pike.

With over 800 square feet of office space, it is easy to maintain the recommended six feet of distancing, enabling our clients to engage in counseling safely. We schedule a 25-minute break between each client to allow us time to disinfect the counseling room furniture, door handles, and waiting room area. In addition, we have an air purifier positioned in the room that removes 99.9% of all contagions.

Dr. Scoggins uses the high-back office chair while clients choose which sofa on which to sit. Forget the images that Hollywood portrays of clients laying on the sofa staring at the ceiling . . . that's not how it works. We prefer a relaxed atmosphere for clients to engage in the support they desire.

As you will see on our Providers page, Dr. Scoggins' typically uses a therapy dog at the Kngston Pike location (but not at The Center). Ziva, the black Great Dane, is the therapy dog. If you have allergies, let us know and we will ensure no therapy dog is present for your session.

Melanie Nordstrom's office is co-located at Life Church on Cedar Lane, which not only facilitates social distancing, but also enables play therapy with children in an environment in which they are comfortable.

Online Counseling is Always an Option

Sometimes it is a preference, other times it is a necessity.

There have been times in the past when we had clients call in to say that they cannot come in for their appointment that week because they are quarantined for COVID-19 exposure. Even in the years before COVID even existed, we had times when a client would call to say they or a member of their family were ill. Online counseling is a great option, as it prevents the "gift that keeps on giving" ... in other words, spreading of illnesses. However, health is not the only reason for telehealth sessions:

Especially with regards to the military, family members sometimes deploy to remote parts of the world and need to continue their progress. We have facilitated online sessions with a local spouse and the military member on the other side of the world. Once again, it is an excellent option available through our support.

Keep in mind, due to professional license restrictions, we are not allowed to provide online clinical counseling to people residing in other states. As such, those who may have simply found our site by surfing the web will need to look for alternatives in the state in which they reside.

Don't delay getting the help you need. Get in touch with us and explain the circumstances you face and we'll do everything possible to accommodate your needs.
